Current botanical conservation efforts are based on ex-situ conservation and on preparations to be carried out in-situ when the time comes. For this purpose, it operates in 4 main segments: The plant laboratory where plant material is manipulated and studied, whether seed or other plant organ, and the data is collected; the seed bank, where seeds are stored for the medium/long term under favorable conditions, labeled and ordered according to parameters of origin; the nursery, where the reproduction and monitoring of plant species are carried out waiting for their final place and, finally, the living collections, which serve as germplasmic banks.
In 2023, we carried out more than 40 expeditions in 22 collection zones across 5 regions of Chile, a task that took 8 months to complete. In it, more than 250 species were collected, totaling approximately 200,000 seeds. Currently, the nursery reproduces 80 species, most of them herbaceous species, species that are not usually worked because of their difficulty.
